Alabama Crimson Tide Adds Nation’s No. 1 Running Back in 2023 Class
The Alabama Crimson Tide has struck gold for the second time by adding its second 5-star prospect in a week.
Richard Young, out of Lehigh Senior High School in Lehigh Acres, Fl., took to social media on Friday evening to announce his commitment to the Alabama Crimson Tide. He is considered the No. 1 running back in the class and the No. 31 overall player in the nation by On3 Sports.
Young gives the Crimson Tide its 16th commitment in the 2023 class and means that Alabama now has the No. 1 and No. 3 running backs committed when including Justice Haynes.
Young was recruited by Crimson Tide running backs coach Robert Gillespie and offensive coordinator and choses Alabama over Georgia and Oregon.
He earned a scholarship offer in February 2021, and he stayed closely in touch with the Tide attending summer camp, taking unofficial visits, hosting head coach Nick Saban for an in-home visit and finally taking an official visit to Tuscaloosa in June 2022.
Alabama now has four, 5-star prospects committed in the 2023 class and On3 Sports now has the Tide ranked with the No. 1 class in the cycle.
The 5-foot-11, 199 pound running back rushed for 1,755 yards and 19 touchdowns in Florida's class 7A as a junior. In three seasons he's totaled 3,591 yards and 33 total touchdowns. As a track star he ran a 10.81 100-meter dash as a junior.
According to Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports the Crimson Tide are just the second team since 2006 to land two of the top three running backs in a class.
