Bailey said 40-year-old Steven Collins was driving a 2020 Toyota Tacoma on the county road when he left the roadway and struck a tree,

A 2-year-old toddler was inside the vehicle and was reportedly unrestrained. Neither Collins nor a 22-year-old woman also riding in the Toyota were wearing seatbelts.

Bailey said the 2-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, and Collins was ejected from the Toyota and badly injured. The woman in the vehicle was also hurt in the collision. She was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where Collins was also treated.

Bailey said the deadly wreck happened on CR 73 near Morris Cemetery Road about two miles south of Glen Allen, Alabama.

UPDATE: Collins died in the hospital Monday, State Troopers said in a Wednesday update.

No other details were available Sunday as Troopers with ALEA's Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
