Police in Tuscaloosa are searching for the bandits responsible for chaining an ATM at a local credit unit to the back of a stolen truck and taking off.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said dispatchers received a call at 4 a.m. Thursday from someone who allegedly saw the truck driving on a road near Alabama One Credit Union dragging an ATM behind them.

Taylor said TPD officers responded and quickly found a stolen red Ford F-350 abandoned on the street. A heavy chain still linked the truck to the ATM snatched from the credit union.

Taylor said the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office responded with a K9 unit to attempt to find a trail leading away from the truck, but they were not successful.

Now TPD's Criminal Investigations Division is on the case, and anyone with more information is urged to contact TPD at 205-349-2121.
