Police Arrest Man for Weekend Murder Over “Minor Altercation” in Tuscaloosa
Local and federal police have located and arrested a man accused of killing one man and wounding another in a weekend shooting that allegedly stemmed from "a minor altercation."
Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said officers were called to Creekwood Village Apartments at 11:50 p.m. last Friday night on reports of a shooting.
One man was fatally, shot, identified Thursday as 23-year-old Emilio Travon Herndon and a second person was wounded with wounds police said are not life-threatening.
The shooter had reportedly fled the scene when police arrived on the scene Friday night, but the VCU interviewed witnesses, collected evidence and identified Darrion Devonta Boyd, also known as “Buck” Boyd as their suspect.
A judge issued warrants to charge Boyd with one count of murder and another count of attempted murder, and after a week of actively searching for the suspect, the US Marshals Task Force captured him Thursday morning.
Boyd has now been booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with no bond according to Aniyah’s Law, pending a judge's hearing.
Kennedy said the shooting appears to be the result of a minor altercation.
It was the 16th in Tuscaloosa so far this year and the 22nd in the County - it is unrelated to the 23rd homicide, which was committed Thursday morning in Northport.
