A West Alabama man will spend 20 years in prison after badly injuring a woman in 2022, a prosecutor announced Thursday.

24th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Andy Hamlin said 47-year-old Christopher L. Clark, an Aliceville man, was arrested after he reportedly strangled and attempted to stab a woman during domestic abuse which required surgery and extensive medical treatment.

Hamlin said Clark has a criminal record that includes felony convictions for first-degree theft and distribution of a controlled substance in addition to two violent misdemeanor assault convictions and multiple domestic violence misdemeanor convictions.

He accepted the 20-year prison sentence as part of a guilty plea.

“There is no doubt that this defendant was a danger not only to the victim, but to the community at large,” Hamlin said. “This sentence proves that domestic violence – especially repeat incidents – will not be tolerated in the 24th Circuit.”

Assistant District Attorney Kaleb Beams oversaw the defendant's guilty plea and sentencing hearing.

“It was an honor to stand with the victim in this case as she stood up to her abuser, and a man who has been a serial domestic abuser in Pickens County,” Beams said. “Together, we asked the Court to hold Mr. Clark accountable for his violent acts towards her, his previous victims, and any possible future victims, and that is precisely what was done with this outcome. We are pleased with the sentence, and the message across this circuit that domestic abuse will not be tolerated.”
