Investigators say they do not suspect foul play in the death of a man who drowned in a small lake in Tuscaloosa County this weekend.

Captain Marty Sellers, the co-commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said their investigators assisted the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office on a death investigation Sunday, July 6th, in the Coker area of Lake Arnedra.

The roughly 25-acre body of water is off Upper Columbus Road, north of Northport and west of the much larger Lake Lurleen.

Sellers said a 65-year-old man was found dead in the water Sunday morning and appears to have drowned. Police report the victim was seen the night before and seems to have entered the lake in the early morning hours on Sunday.

Sellers said there is nothing suspicious about the death - the Violent Crimes Unit investigates almost all local deaths that occur outside of a hospital setting, as well as assault cases and sex crimes. Their involvement in a death case does not always necessarily indicate suspicion of foul play.

The VCU generally does not release the identity of those who die by non-criminal means and Sellers did not name the Sunday drowning victim.
