Corble said the Mercury struck a raised berm and overturned. Johnson was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

The 61-year-old man, a Jasper resident, did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, which was Corble said was near the 166 mile marker, about a mile east of Jasper.

No other details were available Thursday as Troopers with the ALEA's Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
