Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder for Thursday Drive-By in Tuscaloosa
Investigators have charged a local man with attempted murder after he allegedly fired on another man during a drive-by shooting Thursday morning.
According to a newly filed deposition, officers were called to a residence on 23rd Street in west Tuscaloosa a few minutes after 10:45 a.m. Thursday.
A man there said he'd been standing outside when a small SUV approached and its driver began shooting at him.
The intended victim was not struck, but one of the bullets fired at him reportedly did hit a nearby occupied residence. Fortunately, no one inside was injured either.
As with all shootings, the incident was investigated by the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, who were able to obtain surveillance footage that corroborated statements from the victims and gave them a lead on the suspect vehicle.
Ultimately, the VCU identified the driver as Sterling Casey Scott, a 49-year-old Tuscaloosa man, and matched forensic evidence from the scene to some recovered from his vehicle.
Court records say Scott was arrested Sunday and charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied building.
He remained in the Tuscaloosa County Monday afternoon, where his consolidated bond is set at $50,000.
