An allegedly drunk driver has been charged with manslaughter for the death of a pedestrian he hit with his truck after colliding with a disabled vehicle early Sunday morning.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said this weekend that a Ford F-150 traveling on James I. Harrison Parkway shortly after 12 a.m. Sunday struck a disabled vehicle that was partially parked in the roadway.

The pickup truck hit the stalled car and then struck a pedestrian, who was critically injured.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, confirmed on Monday that the pedestrian did not survive their injuries.

Police have not yet released the identity of the victim.

The crash was investigated by TPD's Traffic Homicide Unit and the VCU, and police ultimately determined that the pickup driver was under the influence of alcohol and driving at high speed at the time of the collision.

Kennedy said the driver, 37-year-old Courtney Terrell Harris, was arrested and charged with DUI, felony leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, first-degree assault and manslaughter.

Court records also indicate this is not Harriis' first DUI.

He was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where his consolidated bond has been set at $72,500.
