13-Year-Old Arrested for Threatening Tuscaloosa Middle School
A 13-year-old has been arrested and charged with a felony after she allegedly made a post on social media threatening a middle school in Tuscaloosa.
Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said parents became extremely concerned by a social media post which threatened violence at Eastwood Middle School against its students.
Taylor said TPD's Criminal Investigations Division and their Cyber Intelligence Division worked together after the post was widely shared on Facebook Friday and identified it's author, allegedly. 13-year-old girl.
The teen was questioned Saturday and ultimately arrested and charged with making terroristic threats, a felony.
Taylor said the department received many calls from parents about the post Friday, and the threat prompted extra security at the school.
"Parents should never be afraid to send their children to school, and children should never feel unsafe when they’re there,” TPD Chief Brent Blankley said. "We’re grateful to those who reported this quickly so we could address it and ensure a safe learning environment for the students. Our partnership with Tuscaloosa City Schools and the community is crucial for maintaining safety in our schools."
