Corporal Reginal King, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Troopers, said 63-year-old Daryl W. Brown, a Livingston man, was driving a 2012 Hyundai Accent on the interstate when he was struck by a Mazda 6S being driven by a Tuscaloosa man.

The Mazda left the roadway and overturned, and the Hyundai was disabled. Afterward, Brown's vehicle was struck a second time by a 2023 Freightliner being driven by a Georgia man.

After striking the Hyundai, the Freightliner caught fire and parts of the interstate were closed for almost a full-day as crews tried to extinguish and clear the wreckage.

King said Troopers believe Brown was using a seat belt at the time of the crash, but was ejected because of the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Both of the other two drivers were injured and transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
