In America, there are many concerns that citizens have when surrounding jobs. Fox Business says that what was called the "Great Resignation" back in 2021 where workers quit their jobs due to low pay, no opportunities for advancement, and feeling disrespected could happen again soon in the United States.

These kinds of things effect many areas of the workforce that we may often overlook, like prison staffing.

Knowing this information, it's pretty logical to wonder which states in America are the most equipped and under equipped when it comes to staffing numbers at their prisons.

To find out which states were understaffed, the Las Vegas law firm H&P Law reviewed 2023 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and 2022 data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics to analyze the ratio of correctional officers to prisoners across states. This analysis aimed to identify states with the most understaffed prisons.

Would you believe hat the State of Alabama ranked in the top 5 of most understaffed prisons in the nation?!

The number of prisoners was divided by the number of correctional officers and jailers to calculate the rate of prisoners per correctional officer. The states were then ranked in order of the highest ratio of prisoners to officers to reveal the final rankings.

Here are the top 5 states with the most understaffed prison facilities according to H&P Law.
