City of Tuscaloosa Earns National Finance Award for 37th Year
The City of Tuscaloosa continues to set the standard when it comes to financial transparency and accountability.
For the 37th consecutive year, the City of Tuscaloosa Finance Department has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association. The recognition is for the fiscal year that began October 1, 2024, and it reflects decades of consistent, high level work behind the scenes.
This award recognizes local governments that go beyond the basic requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to produce clear, detailed and transparent annual financial reports that residents can trust. In other words, this is about doing the job the right way and then doing more.
Tuscaloosa first earned this recognition back in 1987 for the fiscal year that began October 1, 1986. Since then, the city has maintained that same level of excellence year after year, showing a long standing commitment to responsible financial management and public accountability.

The Government Finance Officers Association represents public finance professionals across the United States and Canada. Their Certificate of Achievement is considered the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
For residents of Tuscaloosa, this award is a reminder that the city’s finances are being handled with care, consistency and professionalism. It also highlights the work of a finance team that remains focused on accuracy, transparency and stewardship of public funds.
Thirty seven straight years is not just impressive. It is a testament to sustained excellence and a strong financial foundation for the City of Tuscaloosa.
