Major Recall From Alabama Based Jerky Company
Residents of Alabama should be aware of a significant recall involving Hickory Hollow Jerky, a company based in Eufaula. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced a recall of approximately 6,229 pounds of beef and bacon jerky products.
These items were produced between January 19, 2024, and August 21, 2024, without federal inspection.
The issue arose after it was discovered that Hickory Hollow Jerky continued to produce and label these products with the USDA mark of inspection even after voluntarily halting inspection activities. Ownership of the establishment changed on June 11, 2024, but the company name and product labels remained the same.
The recalled products bear the establishment number “EST. NO. 34550” inside the USDA mark. They were distributed to retail locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and through online sales.
While there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consuming these products, FSIS advises anyone who has consumed the jerky and feels unwell to seek medical advice. Consumers are urged to either discard the affected products or return them to the place of purchase.
For more details, you can view the product labels and list of affected items on the FSIS website. If you have questions, contact Charles O’Neill, the current co-owner of Hickory Hollow Jerky, at 262-745-5103 or HickoryHollowBeefJerky@gmail.com. Former owner Russ Robbins can be reached at 334-695-5238 or hhjerky@gmail.com.
For food safety concerns, the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline is available at 888-674-6854, or you can send an email to MPHotline@usda.gov. To report issues with meat, poultry, or egg products, visit the FSIS complaint system online at https://foodcomplaint.fsis.usda.gov/eCCF/.
