The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® Eta Xi Omega Chapter has recognized the impact that educators have on young minds. The chapter feels that supporting first-year educators helps pave the way for a brighter future in education, where passionate teachers can thrive and make a lasting impact on the lives of their students.

Compared nationally, first-time teachers in Alabama are 50% more likely to leave within their first three years of employment said the Alabama Commission on the Evaluation of Services.

“The first year of teaching is a period of immense growth. First-year teachers learn not only about their students but also about themselves as educators,” said Dr. Shanté Morton, President of the Eta Xi Omega Chapter.

“They gain insights into their teaching style, strengths, and areas for improvement. These experiences serve as a foundation for ongoing professional development throughout their careers.”
