Let’s face it everything in the South can be and will be fried at some point. Listen, I’ve had it all, or so I thought.

The normal stuff is fried, like chicken, shrimp, pork chops, and egg rolls, but there is odd stuff too. I mean people from the North think fried pickles are odd but it’s a staple in the South.

Some things I’ve had fried that others turn their nose up at are frog legs, butter, Cadbury Cream Egg, battered bacon, cookie dough, even fried strawberries, and an Oreo that made me feel like I was in heaven.

But … I was introduced to something, that I never thought in a million years would have been fried.

Fried Olives

How I got to experience this fried deliciousness, is that one random early afternoon transitioned into a spur-of-the-moment lunch outing with my bosses at Billy’s. Now one thing about my boss, he knows his restaurants. You never have a bad meal when you are out with him. He even has a hit list of restaurants in practically every state.

O!M!G! You haven’t lived until you have visited Billy’s Sports Grill in Downtown Northport and experienced their “Fried Olives.”

Presentation:

According to the menu at Billy’s, they describe this fried favorite is “a scratch-made favorite serving of 12 Black olive pieces with Mozzarella cheese, seasoned, battered & fried. Served with a side of buttermilk ranch.”

You can tell by the picture that a few were gobbled up before I could snap a picture.

I never heard of fried olives but my boss ensured me that I would be happy. I mean, his food game is on point, so I dove into the basket.

Taste:

It’s hard to explain but the mild salty mild taste that olives already have are totally amplified when they are fried. Tying in the mozzarella cheese and the frying batter makes each bite very unique with a tad bit of mild sweetness. It is truly seasoned to perfection.

Texture:

The light crunch paired with the velvety olive inside puts you in a happy goodness space.

Value:

As far as pricing on appetizers goes, I think it’s on average compared to other restaurants. According to the menu, it is listed at $13.

Don't judge me but they next time I go, I want my own basket. I can already tell, I don't want to share MY fried olives. LOL!

Overall:

Let’s just say, if I’m ever in Downtown Northport, and I just happen to find a great parking space. I’m going to get some fried olives from Billy’s.
