VIDEO: Alabama Authorities Warn Against Confronting Pedophiles

This is really a big deal and pretty disturbing.
Social media can be a wonderful asset for doing many great things in our community. It can also be one of the worst things in modern society.
Documentaries have been done exposing the way that young people get completely addicted to social media in the same way that a heroin addict will do anything for a fix. We all know how much time teens spend on their phones and social media platforms.
One of the biggest problems is the “TikTok challenge” or trends on TikTok that encourage people to try dangerous things.
The Benadryl challenge, which involves taking excessive amounts of Benadryl at one time because it causes hallucinations, was extremely dangerous.
As was the electrical outlet challenge that involved cell phone chargers not being plugged in properly and using a penny to cause a fuse. This resulted in fires and a couple of electrocutions.
Now, we have a trend being spread all over social media that encourages people to take the law into their own hands. This is the basis: you pose as an underage girl or boy and try to convince a predator to meet you somewhere in person.
Here is a group, for example, that confronts a different child predator each day. As much as I agree with their desire to expose these evil individuals, it is not wise for many people to try doing this.

You then are encouraged to “confront” the predator/predators and “give them what they deserve”.
However, West Alabama law enforcement makes it clear that this is highly dangerous and illegal. It could get someone killed, and I’m not talking about the “predator”.
West Alabama law enforcement said they have made several arrests in task force investigations and that a suspect had a firearm in his possession.
If there are two guns in the house, one of them better be yours.
I’m sure that any reasonable individual can see the myriad of ways that this could go wrong. But the fact is that it is not stopping the spread of this “challenge” on social media.
Law enforcement encourages all of us to contact them. If we suspect we have encountered a sexual predator, we should let them handle it from there.
That sounds like good advice to me.
