Moderate to Major Heat-Related Conditions Across Alabama
Welcome to the summer season in the southern region. Today, June 20, marks the “official” kickoff to summer, thanks to the summer solstice that happens at 9:42 p.m.

Meteorologically speaking, weather enthusiasts have been celebrating since June 1. And for most folks, the summer vibes start with the Memorial Day Holiday.
From Wet to Muggy
It seems like we have had nonstop wet and severe weather. Now, you should get ready to transition to a “warm and muggy with repeated rounds of widespread thunderstorms,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
Don’t forget that “you always have the risk of an afternoon storm on summer days, but they will become few and far between as the ridge builds. The chance of any one spot seeing a storm each day is in the 15-25 percent range,” said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist.
Summertime Heat Arrives
Here is what you need to know about this weekend and throughout next week. It’s going to be increasingly hot, along with humid conditions.
The heat index values will be a major concern during this transition to summer weather. Which is the “temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature,” said the NOAA.
West Alabama Heat Index Concerns
Over the next several days, temperatures will climb into the low to mid-90s with humidity making it feel as hot as 100-105 degrees across portions of West Alabama.
For example, the National Weather Service in Birmingham reports the following heat index values for Tuscaloosa: Friday, 94 °F; Saturday, 100 °F; and Sunday, 102 °F.
