The lawsuit centers around an incident that occurred early this Summer when the family claims that officers shot and killed their family pet.

The McCann family says the pet was their 100-pound pit bull.

The family says that investigators were searching for one of their family members who was incarcerated at the time.

It was during that search on their property that one of the officers fired his weapon and killed "Sammy", who served as a personal therapy pet.

The lawsuit is seeking a punitive/compensatory sum of $1,000,000 for damages.

Next up in the process is the response from the Tuscaloosa Sheriff's Department to the lawsuit.
