Francine is Now a Hurricane: Alabama Braces for Possible Severe Weather
The Townsquare Media Weather Center is closely monitoring Francine, which has developed into a hurricane.
Current Francine Stats
Francine is centered over 300 miles southwest of Morgan City, Louisiana.
The hurricane is moving along a northeast track at 10 mph.
Winds are 75 mph.
The hurricane is expected to strengthen more before making landfall in Louisiana on Wednesday.
Possible Severe Weather in West Alabama
Information from the National Weather Service in Birmingham
When: Thursday morning through Thursday evening.
What: Level 1 out of 5 (Marginal) risk of brief tornadoes.
Where: All except far eastern portions of Central Alabama.
The Storm Prediction Center has indicated that Mobile and Baldwin counties have a "slight risk" (level 2 out of 5) of severe thunderstorms tomorrow and tomorrow night. Meanwhile, most of the state, except for the northeast counties, faces a "marginal risk" (level 1 out of 5) of severe weather during the day on Thursday.
Wind
When: After midnight Wednesday night through Thursday evening.
What: Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph with wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph. Locally higher gusts up to 45 mph. Scattered downed trees and power outages.
Where: Highest winds along and west of I-65.
Flooding
When: Wednesday night through Thursday evening.
What: 2-3" of rainfall with locally higher amounts up to 4". Isolated flooding mainly in urban and poor drainage areas.
Where: Greatest threats west of I-65.
