Three Alabama Linemen Named to Outland Watch List
Alabama's offensive line was touted as one of the biggest in the country in 2023, and they were expected to be a massive contributor to the Crimson Tide's 2023 success.
In reality, they were the hindrance to Alabama's season, with the snapping issues potentially costing Alabama a national championship run. Alabama gave up 49 sacks last season, an average of 3.5 sacks per game.
Alabama's offensive line is expected to be improved in 2023 with the return of Tyler Booker as the starting left guard, the establishment of Jaeden Roberts as the full-time right guard, and the transfer of Parker Brailsford, who started all 15 games for Washington last season, the interior of Alabama's offensive line is expected to be the strength of the room.
Tim Smith is the veteran leader among the Crimson Tide's defensive line. A fifth-year senior at Alabama, Smith started every game for Alabama last season, totaling 31 tackles and two sacks.
Three of Alabam's interior linemen are being recognized for their talent early, with Booker, Smith, and Brailsford all being named to the Outland Trophy Watchlist.
The Outland Trophy is presented to the top interior lineman every season. Alabama is familiar with the award, with six Crimson Tide players previously winning the award:
Chris Samuels (1999)
Andre Smith (2008)
Barrett Jones (2011)
Cam Robinson (2016)
Quinnen Williams (2018)
Alex Leatherwood (2020)
Alabama starts its season on Aug. 31 at home against Western Kentucky.
