Northside Handles Business Against Holt to Stay Undefeated
TUSCALOOSA, Ala — The Northside Rams (6-0, 4-0) took care of the Holt Ironmen (2-3, 1-3) 42-0 in a Thursday region matchup.
Northside-Holt was one of many games in the Tuscaloosa area pushed to Thursday because of possible inclement weather Friday evening.
Holt got the ball to start the game and immediately ran into trouble, getting backed up to their own goal line after a poor return. The Northside defense quickly forced a three-and-out, causing the Ironmen to punt from their own end zone.
A solid punt return set up the Rams in their own territory. A few plays later, senior Bennett Green found the end zone on the ground to put the first points of the night on the board. 7-0, Rams.
Northside's only struggle was its kickoff defense, which allowed Holt to set up nicely around midfield on their second drive. However, the Rams' defense held strong and forced a turnover on downs.
On the ensuing Northside drive, Jackson Rhodes found Alex Kightlinger deep to put the Rams on the goal line. Rhodes found the end zone on a designed QB run two plays later to put Northside up 14-0.
Northside continued to pour it on in the first quarter, as Rhodes found Green on a wheel route out of the backfield to tack on another touchdown. Lynn Otero's PAT attempt was good, making it 21-0 Rams.
Holt began building something positive toward the end of the first half. After intercepting Rhodes in the end zone, the Ironmen moved the ball slowly but couldn't capitalize, turning it over on downs in the red zone with less than 30 seconds left in the half.
The second half would be a similar story, as the Rams found pay dirt three more times to put the game to bed.
Northside travels to Sipsey Valley next week while Holt will visit Jemison.
