Georgia’s Monstrous Fifth Inning Drowns Crimson Tide in Game One
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — No. 23 Alabama (37-13, 13-12) drops game one of their Friday night doubleheader to No. 6 Georgia (40-11, 16-9) 19-3 after a disastrous top of the fifth inning for the Crimson Tide, where the Bulldogs piled on eight runs.

The Bulldogs began the scoring for the evening in the top of the first, as two-hole hitter Slate Alford launched a blast to the steps of the law building to give Georgia an early 1-0 lead.
Georgia starter Brian Curley picked up a strikeout in the bottom of the first while retiring the top of the Crimson Tide lineup in order.
Both offenses threatened to score in the second, but UGA's Curley and Alabama's Fay were able to work out of the jam.
Fay retired the Georgia lineup 1-2-3 in the third and Alabama took advantage, loading the bases for captain Kade Snell who delivered, dropping a three-RBI double over the head of Georgia's right fielder Cade Brown to take a 3-1 lead.
After a quiet fourth inning, Georgia blew the game wide open in the fifth.
Four walks and five hits, three for extra bases, paved the way for Georgia to tally eight runs in the frame to drown the Crimson Tide in a 9-3 deficit.
In the sixth, the Bulldogs tacked on three more runs thanks to a two-RBI Tre Phelps double and an RBI single via Colby Branch to take a 12-3 lead over the Crimson Tide.
The Crimson Tide were able to load the bases in the bottom of the sixth with two outs, but couldn't find the swing to drive the runners home, keeping the deficit at 12-3.
The Bulldogs tallied three home runs, scoring six runs, and an RBI single to put up a seven-spot in the seventh to jump out to a 19-3 lead and put the Crimson Tide deep in run-rule territory.
Game two set to begin at 7:28 p.m. CT.
