NCAA Takes Step Towards Singular Transfer Window
According to Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger, college football is inching towards a single transfer portal window. According to Dellenger, the NCAA football oversight committee has voted in favor of a single transfer portal window.
The transition still requires the nod from the NCAA's Administrative Committee — which oversees ethical conduct, academic and athletics eligibility, and recruiting, amongst other things — by October 1. If approved, the change will take effect following the 2025 season, with the transfer window opening on January 2.

The window would be open for ten days. This change would only take effect for football.
In 2024, there were two transfer windows, in December and April. The December window caused problems for coaching staffs around the country, as they had to prepare for their bowl games while simultaneously recruiting in the portal and retaining their own players. If the one-window format gets approved, programs won't have to deal with players leaving in the middle of bowl game prep.
The resolution could also help revive the tradition of spring games, which saw a decline in 2025 due to teams poaching players through the spring portal based on film from those events.
