Alabama is up to No. 3 in ESPN's computer-based power index, sitting behind only Oregon and Ohio State. Alabama has an FPI ranking of 22.0, Ohio State (No. 2) has a ranking of 22.3, and Oregon (NO. 1) has an FPI ranking of 24.2.

The Crimson Tide's projected win-loss record according to the FPI is 8.6-3.7, ranking 29th. Miami has the top record prediction with a 10.8-1.8 projection. Alabama's win-out percentage sits at just 8.6%, but is projected at 100% to achieve six wins on the season, which would make the Crimson Tide bowl eligible for the 22nd consecutive season, maintaining the Crimson Tide's third-longest active streak of bowl eligibility (Oklahoma sits at 26 straight years, and Georgia sits at 28 straight years).

Alabama has the second-highest percentage chance to win the SEC at 19.3%. Georgia sits atop the SEC with a 28.6% chance to win the conference.

Alabama has the seventh-best percentage chance to make the College Football Playoff at 50.2%. Ohio State, Georgia, Oregon, Ole Miss, USC, and Miami sit ahead of the Crimson Tide.

The Tide sits with the fifth-best chance to make the national championship with a 14.3% chance, with Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia, and USC ahead of them. Alabama has the fourth-best chance to win the national championship at 8.5%, with Oregon, Ohio State, and Georgia ahead of it. Oregon has the best percentage chance to win the national championship with a 15.2% chance.

The Crimson Tide will have an opportunity to rise in ESPN's FPI again after a bye week, when Alabama travels to Athens, Georgia, to take on the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs on September 27.
