Through a partnership with the Tuscaloosa City School Board, the City of Tuscaloosa will open two safe rooms  for public access.

The shelters will be located at the Tuscaloosa Magnet School (315 McFarland Blvd. East) and the Tuscaloosa Career & Technology Academy (2800 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd). These shelters have a very limited capacity – 150 at Tuscaloosa Magnet School and 800-1,000 at TCTA. They will be open from 5 p.m until the threat of severe weather passes. Refreshments will not be provided.

Gorgas Library and the Recreation Center are available to University of Alabama students, faculty and staff who feel safer on campus, per UA officials.

Citizens are advised to follow existing severe weather plans, but those in mobile homes or unsafe structures can take advantage of these facilities. Do not attempt to drive to these locations during a tornado warning.
