Some West Alabama schools have already made the decision to close schools early on Tuesday as severe weather approaches the state.

Forecasts - which you can see here - are expecting the strongest weather to start moving into West Alabama early to mid-afternoon. Due to the threat of strong winds, tornadoes, and damaging hail, schools in the area are making the decision on whether to dismiss early to allow children to get home before the storms.

We'll update this list as more information is released, but here are the school closings for Tuesday, February 2.

  • American Christian Academy - Dismissing at 12:30 PM
  • Bibb County Schools - Dismissing at 1PM; all after school activities cancelled
  • Fayette Christian Academy - Dismissing at 1 PM
  • Fayette County Schools - Dismissing at 12 PM
  • Greene County Schools - Dismissing at 1 PM
  • Hale County Schools - Dismissing at 11:15 AM
  • Haleyville Schools - Dismissing at 1 PM
  • Jasper City Schools - Dismissing at 1 PM
  • Lamar County Schools - Dismissing at 12 PM
  • Marion County Schools - Dismissing at 1 PM
  • North River Christian Academy - Dismissing at 1:15 PM
  • Pickens County Schools - Dismissing at 12 PM
  • Shelby County Schools - All after-school activities have been cancelled.
  • Shelton State Community College - Closing at 1:30 PM
  • Theatre Tuscaloosa - Closing at 1:30 PM
  • Tuscaloosa City Schools - High Schools, Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools, and Alberta School of the Performing Arts dismissing at 11:30 a.m.; Middle Schools dismissing at 12 PM; Elementary Schools Dismissing at 12:30 PM.
    All after-school activities are cancelled; this includes extended day, club meetings, and athletic events.
  • Tuscaloosa Christian School: K4 and K5 dismissing at 12 PM; Grades 1-6 dismissing at 12:20 PM; Grades 7-12 dismissing at 12:35 PM. All after school activities cancelled.
  • Tuscaloosa County Schools - Dismissing at 12 PM today; all after school activities are cancelled.
  • Tuscaloosa Public Library - Closing at 12 PM
  • Tuscaloosa VAMC is canceling afternoon clinics from 12 noon-4:30pm. today, February 2. This also includes the Selma Community-Based Outpatient Clinic and the Mobile Health Clinic. Appointments will be rescheduled and Veterans will be notified of the new appointments.
  • Walker County Schools - Dismissing at 1 PM
  • Winfield City Schools - Dismissing at 12 PM
  • Winston County Schools - Dismissing at 1PM
  • University of Alabama DINING: Late night at Lakeside Dining is cancelled 
  • University of West Alabama - Closing at 2 PM
