Watch Richard Shelby Congratulate Alabama Football on the Senate Floor

The University of Alabama football team was recognized on the Senate floor by notable alumnus Richard Shelby on Thursday.

The longtime Alabama senator introduced a resolution applauding the Crimson Tide football program for its national championship victory over the Georgia Bulldogs last week. The 26-23 win in Atlanta gave the Alabama program its 17th championship in school history.

“I rise today to offer my congratulations to the University of Alabama Crimson Tide on the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship victory against the University of Georgia Bulldogs,” said Senator Shelby. “I join the University of Alabama, the Crimson Tide faithful, and the entire state of Alabama – my state – in commending this team on its hard-fought win, and for showing perseverance in the midst of adversity, time and time again."

Alabama will celebrate its championship with a parade on Saturday that will go from Denny Chimes to the Walk of Champions in the north endzone of Bryant-Denny Stadium. The celebration starts at 2 p.m.
