Fall Festivals and Halloween Family Fun in Tuscaloosa

West Alabama's own haunted house opens October 10th and remains open for nightly tours throughout the month. Visit the Maxwell-Hamner House on Main Avenue in Northport to see what terrors still haunt this historic home.

Admission is $15 per person. Main Avenue Mortuary is open to the public October 10-October 13, October 17- October 20, and October 24 through October 31 weeknights until 10 pm and open until midnight on weekends.

Come out to the first-ever Bama Zombie Dash presented by Northport Urgent Care & The Laser Skin Center on Sunday, October 27, and see if you can escape the grasp of crawlers and walking dead as they try to snatch the flags off of your waist. If you’re the first person to make it through with all of your flags, you’ll win a cash prize!

On the day of the race, registration will take place at Kentuck Park beginning at 3:00 p.m. The race will commence at 5:00 p.m., or as zombies call it, peak feasting time!

Registration is $30 in advance or $35 the day of the race. The first 100 to register receive a free Bama Zombie Dash T-Shirt. The race is open to those 13 years of age and older.

Tuscaloosa Barnyard offers a petting zoo and a pumpkin patch this fall. The $15 admission charge (per person) includes a hay ride as well. Tuscaloosa Barnyard is open Fridays and Saturdays this fall from 9am to 1pm.

CHOM is hosting a Halloween Spooktacular and Monster Mash Ball on Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. The museum is going all out with each of its three floors decorated for maximum spooky fun! Your costume is your admission to the event, and all ages are welcome with an adult. The event also features music from DJ Chuckie for the Monster Mash Ball.

The annual Kentuck Festival of the Arts will be held October 19 and 20 at Kentuck Park in Northport. The festival is open from 9am to 5pm each day and features over folk, visionary, and contemporary artists and expert craftspeople presenting their work and free hands-on art-making for children in Kentuck for Kids and throughout the park. You'll also be able to check out interactive live demonstrations by expert craftspeople—basketmakers, blacksmiths, woodworkers, traditional potters, fiber and fabric artists, quilters, jewelers, and a glassblower.

CHOM is also hosting a Pumpkin Carving Party on Thursday, October 31 from 3pm to 4:30pm. Admission to the party is included in the regular admission fee. Kids can help carve CHOM's official Halloween Pumpkin, decorate paper bag pumpkins, enjoy pumpkin cookies, and enter their own pumpkins in the contest.

Celebrate South’s rich Indian heritage at the award winning Moundville Native American Festival at Moundville Archaeological Park. See skilled artisans performing creating pottery, baskets, arrowheads, and more. Catch concerts and dance performances and enjoy concessions and authentic Native American cuisine.

The festival runs October 8 through October 12, 2013. Weekday hours are 9am to 3:30pm; weekend hours are 9am to 5pm. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for children.

The Birmingham Zoo's "Boo at the Zoo" continues throughout the month of October. The Zoo is transformed into the perfect playground for family Halloween fun. Be sure to come dressed in your favorite family-friendly costume to search for Bigfoot on the Sasquatch Safari, jump on the Eerie Express train, take a spin on the Scarousel, participate in animal-themed games at the Creepy Carnival tent, trick-or-treat your way through safe candy villages and much more! Boo at the Zoo is one spook-tacular event you won’t want to miss!

Boo at the Zoo is open from 5pm to 9pm on October 11-13, 20, 23-24, 27, and 31 and from 5pm to 10pm October 18, 19, 25, and 26. Admission is $8 for non-members and $6 for members. Attraction wristbands are $11.50 or $3.50 for each individual attraction. All prices exclude sales/local tax.

The Birmingham Ghost Walk is a new attraction for the Magic City this fall. Explore the haunted history of Birmingham with a guided ghost tour--you'll walk around downtown Birmingham and hear some of the South's best ghost stories.
