There are many people who feel that good teachers are important as it relates to student academic performance. Research using student scores on standardized tests proves the perception that some teachers are more effective than others and further indicates that being instructed by such teachers results in superior student achievement.

I will admit that many factors contribute to a student's achievement, including such factors as individual characteristics and family and neighborhood experiences. However, research shows that, among school-related factors, teachers matter most.

When it comes to actual student performance on tests, a teacher has two to three times the impact of any other school factor, including services, facilities, and yes, even leadership.
