The Simpsons has gone on long enough that fans will inevitably face cast departure or a potential end to the series, but despite the recent renewal for Seasons 27 and 28, that end may already be in sight. Iconic Simpsons mainstay Harry Shearer appears to have revealed his exit from the long-running FOX animated series, and not even Ned Flanders could find the optimism here.

Now that Upfronts 2015 have entered the scheduling phase, we thought most of the major renewals, cancellations and pickups had delivered their biggest surprises. Not so apparently, as FOX has decided to put American Idol out to pasture after 15 seasons, ending the reality singing competition for good next year.

It’s another sad day for The Simpsons and the world at large, as series executive producer Al Jean confirmed news that co-creator Sam Simon passed away on Sunday, at the age of 59, in Los Angeles. The Emmy-winning Simon had also written for such TV legends as Taxi and Cheers, battling a cancer diagnosis since 2012.

The fifth season of FOX's starmaking 'Glee' became mired by change with the death of actor Cory Monteith, as well as news that a sixth season would likely prove the last for the series. Earlier today, word broke of 'Glee''s potential plans to move the series to New York full-time in time for the final season, though that idea was only one of several under consideration. Far crazier than that however, is another apparent possibility that will see a major character relocating to Russia altogether!

You'd never know it by the first official teaser trailer for 'Glee' season 5, as something (or someone) seems entirely absent from the otherwise cheerful footage.

'Glee' has officially resumed production on its fifth and potentially penultimate season, though only three episodes will shoot before a brief hiatus to retool following series star Cory Monteith's death.
