A plane carrying six people crashed near the Van de Graaff Arboretum across from the Tuscaloosa Regional Airport.

According to reports, the plane went down around noon on Sunday.

Tuscaloosa Police Lt. Teena Richardson confirmed that the plane was traveling from Kissimmee, Florida and headed to Oxford, Mississippi when engine problems were reported. She also confirmed that six people were killed.

The plane was registered to a company called Oxford University Aircraft Charters.

The Oxford Eagle reports that two of the passengers on the plane were dentists in the community.
