Gather together your old and outdated phone books and do your part to help the Tuscaloosa City and Council school systems.

A press release from the City of Tuscaloosa reads:

Local businesses, community members and students have the opportunity to support the Tuscaloosa City and Council school systems through donating their outdated phone books. The YP Cares program will be recycling all of these collected phone books.

Participants in the YP Cares phone book recycling drive will have a chance to win prizes totaling $4,000. Phone book donations will be collected now through Friday, Feb. 28. Group prizes will be awarded to the top three performing schools in each school system. Winning schools will be selected based on the number of phone books collected per student enrolled. First, second and third place schools in each system will receive $1,000, $600 and$400, respectively.

Individual students will also have a chance to win prizes. Elementary students who collect 10 or more phone books will be entered in a drawing for a PlayStation Portable. Those collecting 100 or more phone books will win a Little Ricky the Recycler stuffed animal, the mascot of the City of Tuscaloosa Environmental Services Department, and other YP prizes.

Middle school and high school students collecting 10 or more phone books will be entered in a drawing for Beats by Dre ear buds and headphones, respectively.

Students attending private schools or home school programs can collect phone books for individual prizes by obtaining authorized collection forms from the Environmental Services Department.
