Scientists have discovered a new strain of virus apparently passed through blood transfusions. Not much is known about human hepegivirus-1, or HHpgV-1, other than it resembles hepatitis C and the harmless and beneficial human pegivirus.

Medical researchers indicate that this is the first transfusion-associated virus that has come along in a while. They admit that they don't know if it is going to be an important cause of human hepatitis. It may prove to be good for humans.
