Oftentimes, voters find themselves at the polls and either don't vote for local candidates or they vote a straight ticket, not necessarily for the candidate that most accurately reflects their ideals. The League of Women Voters of Greater Tuscaloosa is working to change this.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization which encourages informed and active participation in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

On the local level, the League holds regular political forums to allow area residents to become acquainted with their politicians' platforms and beliefs. According to the Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports Commission, The League, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, the University of Alabama Retirees Association, and the Tuscaloosa Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta will host a "Meet Your Legislators Night" is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 19 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bryant Conference Center on the University of Alabama campus.

At this event, invited guests will have the opportunity to present their platforms as well as answer questions from the audience if time permits. There is no cost to attend
