My sweet grandmother passed away from complications due to breast cancer many years ago. I remember her mastectomy and I remember sensing the fear of those closest around her. She fought ten brave years but lost her battle in 1999.

Can you name eight women in your life who are very special to you? I'm sure it's easy to most of us: Mom, Freda, Ashley, Melissa, Tammy, Shea, Marsha and Bethany.

Sadly, the chances are really good that you will lose one person for every eight you know due to breast cancer.

While advancements have been made, deaths associated to breast cancer illness is still high.

In 2015, it is estimated that among U.S. women there will be*:

  •  231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer
  •  40,290 breast cancer deaths
One of the most important steps you can take is to self check regularly. The Susan G. Komen gives a great tutorial on how to perform a self test.
Another way to combat breast cancer is by participating in the 4th Annual Kick Event on October 15. 9Round will donate 1 penny for every time you kick. All of the money you raised will be sent to a breast cancer research or cure foundation.
So make plans to kick Cancer to the curb and join 9Round in Northport for their one day Kick Breast Cancer Event on October 15.
