The Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service is proud to have the ability to offer the community the life saving service of free smoke detectors.

This smoke alarm program known as 'Get Alarmed!' has been serving residents since 2006. The goal is give every Tuscaloosa home the opportunity to have a working smoke alarm. Firefighters have been door to door offering a free smoke alarm inspection and if needed, a free smoke alarm.

Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue has released these figures:

In 2014 we secured a $10,000 Assistance to Firefighters grant to purchase traditional smoke alarms and ADA complaint smoke alarms for this program. At the close of 2014, we had visited 6,906 single family residences in the City of Tuscaloosa and installed smoke alarms in 1,311 of those homes.

This service is still available to those in need of a smoke alarm within the City of Tuscaloosa. For more information on Get Alarmed! Tuscaloosa or how to receive a free smoke alarm, please call 205-248-5420.
