Safety equipment, in the form of two medic helicopters, a fire truck and two ambulances, converged at Talladega Superspeedway on Wednesday on behalf of Air Methods

The event was part of the Great American Safety Drive (GASD), a “Safety Stop” event put on for more than 50 area First Responders.

The event was part of a 12-city cross-country tour that began in Santa Monica, CA on May 31, and will end Sunday in Hilton Head, SC. The tour is designed to demonstrate the industry’s commitment to safety for medical crews and the patients they serve. In the track’s media center local first responders were treated to a half day of safety education.

The goal of the Great American Safety Drive is to raise $100,000 for Med Evac Foundation International (non-profit), earmarked specifically to support safety research, education and programs such as the Survivors Network and Vision Zero.

In the above photo, first responders are pictured behind a classic Chevrolet Corvette, with the Talladega GEICO 500 Ford Mustang and the Ford Thunderbird that led the cross-country tour riding the track’s middle lane.
