You'd think it would go without saying for an EMT to assist a person in distress. Apparently, that's not so. One EMT worker has been disciplined for stopping to assist a choking girl.

According to Fox News, a New York EMT has been suspended without pay for stopping to help a choking 7-year-old. Policy states that workers are not allowed to assist anyone unless they have been called to do so. Reid said he knew the choking girl took priority over the elderly person he and his partner were transporting at the time.

In this case, I would say, he WAS called.... Just not by the person(s) seemingly in authority. The little girl did survive, but she is currently on life support. Her family maintains hope that she'll recover.
