Birmingham Civil Rights Institute Rescinds Angela Davis Honor

*in my Russell Huxtable voice* You give a little honor, and you take it right back.

At least that’s how it seems in the case of Angela Davis.

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute announced in October that it would honor Davis with the Fred Shuttlesworth Human Rights Award for her work in fighting for civil rights, but the Institute now says that upon further examination, Davis doesn’t meet the criteria for an honoree.

*pearls clutched*

Well, what criteria must one meet?  Are they looking for “lowly, meek, and mild?”
