The Alabama men’s and women’s basketball teams will welcome in the upcoming 2014-15 campaign with a special fan-friendly event: Hoops on the Quad presented by Alabama Power.

The event is a first of its kind at The University of Alabama that will take place on The Quad on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. CT, prior to the Alabama-Texas A&M football game that has been scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff.

“We are looking forward to bring in the new season with this type of event,” men’s basketball head coach Anthony Grant said. “For us to showcase both the men’s and women’s basketball teams in an atmosphere like The Quad prior to a football game is exciting for not just the fans, but for the coaches and players alike. We look forward to seeing the best fans in the nation next Saturday afternoon.”

“We are so excited about taking part in a preseason event like this right in the heart of our campus,” women’s basketball head coach Kristy Curry said. “Fans will have the opportunity to get an early glimpse of the teams in a fun and energetic atmosphere, and I think this is a great way to help tip off our season.”

The 1 hour event will be held on a special outdoor court and showcase both the men’s and women’s teams as they participate in a variety of activities that is sure to be entertaining for fans. Among the list of activities are a special team introductions, skills competition, a three-point shootout, a brief scrimmage and other surprise entertainment. Both teams will remain on site following the show to sign autographs for fans.
