Anthony Grant: Devonta Pollard No Longer Enrolled at Alabama

University of Alabama forward Devonta Pollard is no longer enrolled at the University of Alabama, according to a statement from head coach Anthony Grant on Monday.

“Our primary concern is and has always been his well-being and doing what is in his best interest. In light of the issues at hand, we felt it best to allow him the time he needed to focus solely on family without having to address his status as a student-athlete” Grant said.

“In a recent meeting with Devonta, he informed me that he and his family have decided that he needs to withdraw from The University of Alabama so that he can be closer to his family during this difficult time”.

Pollard a heralded high school athlete as a McDonald’s high school All-American, came to the University of Alabama as the lone member of Alabama’s 2012 signing class.  At 6-foot-7, 200lbs, the Mississippi native struggled to make the impact some expected averaging just less than four points per game.

Expected to make headlines on the court, it was off the court which led to Pollard’s most recent troubles. On June 4^th he was arrested on a charge of conspiracy to commit kidnapping in connection with the April kidnapping of Jashayla Hopson.

Grant also noted in his statement that Pollard has his full support in regards to the decision to withdraw at this time, but added that due to the ongoing legal situation he could not comment further on the matter.

CBS Sports Gary Parish first reported the news last week, however, upon the release the university had yet to make any official statement on the issue.
