American Cornhole Organization hosts Majors Tournament in Tuscaloosa

The American Cornhole Organization (ACO) will be in Tuscaloosa this weekend hosting the ACO Alabama Cornhole Cup II. There will be both a singles and double tournament.

First of all, what is cornhole? Well, according to the ACO website,

It has been called many things, Corn Toss, Bean Bag, Bean Toss, Soft Horseshoes, Indiana Horseshoes, but to many of us born and raised in Kentucky and the southern part of Ohio, the game is passionately referred to as Cornhole.

Cornhole or Corn Toss is similar to horseshoes except you use wooden boxes called cornhole platforms and corn bags instead of horseshoes and metal stakes. Contestants take turns pitching their corn bags at the cornhole platform until a contestant reaches the score of 21 points. A corn bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point.

You do not have to be a professional to get in on the action! Friday, there will be a tournament for non-members of the ACO. Anyone who is interested in playing is encouraged to walk-up and buy-in for the individual tournaments or register online. Registration is $20 per ACO member, which includes entry to the Singles tournament and half of the Doubles tournament fee. Registration for non-ACO members costs $40 per player. • The non-member contests will begin at 6pm Friday, April 11th.
• The Singles tournament will begin at 10am on Saturday, April 12th.
• The Doubles tournament will begin as soon as the Singles tournament concludes.  

Both the singles and doubles tournaments will be held at the new Northridge Pavilion at 4205 Northridge Road.
