The first day of a new school year is rapidly approaching, and Alabamians can get a bit of a break when purchasing supplies with the state's annual Sales Tax Holiday set for August 1 through August 3, 2014. Both Tuscaloosa City and Tuscaloosa County Schools begin classes on August 7, 2014, which means this year's Tax Holiday is the weekend before school starts. The holiday gives shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers, and clothing free of state sales or use tax.  Local sales and use tax may apply; click HERE for a list of participating cities and counties.

School supplies like books, clothing, pencils, paper, computers, and more are exempt during the Tax-Free Weekend. Some items, however, are not considered eligible for the exemption; these include things like sports equipment, eyeglasses, and hair accessories. You can view the entire list of approved items HERE.
