Alabama's secondary has taken a big hit with the news that defensive back Eddie Jackson tore his ACL during Saturday's scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

ESPN first reported the news that the rising sophomore will miss the remainder of spring practice and could potentially miss some, if not all, of the 2014 season. Recovery time for this injury takes about five months, which almost certainly means he'll miss preseason camp in August.

Head coach Nick Saban confirmed the report in a statement released through the school on Monday:

Eddie Jackson had an MRI Sunday which confirmed that he had ligament damage in his knee that required surgery. We have a great medical staff here and he will have the full support of everyone in the organization as he goes through the rehab process. We are confident Eddie will make a full recovery and be ready to go this fall.

Saban had said earlier that Jackson had been the most consistent corner this spring, and that the injury came during a non-contact situation where he 'came down funny.'

As a true freshman last season, Jackson started four games, including the Sugar Bowl loss to Oklahoma, and appeared in seven total contests, while recording an interception and two fumble recoveries.
