Leon Douglas himself did stay in his home state to play college basketball at Alabama, and he made history of his own. He was part of the 1973--74 Alabama team that became the first in the SEC to start five black players and win the SEC championship in the process.
In 1963, black students were unwelcome, but today Alabama is a champion with togetherness black and white.
